10 Reasons to Live in Boquete

1/28/2025

Have you ever dreamed of escaping to a place where every day feels like a slice of paradise? If so, you’re about to discover why Boquete should be at the top of your list. Nestled in the highlands of Panama, this charming mountain town offers a lifestyle so unique …it’s almost too good to be true. Let’s count down the top 10 reasons why you should call Boquete home. Stay tuned to number one… because it could be life-changing.

Number 10 - Proximity to Panama City and the Beaches:
While Boquete feels like a tranquil escape, it’s still close to everything you need. A short drive takes you to David, Panama’s third-largest city.  David’s airport connects you to Panama City and beyond. Even better, the stunning beaches of the Pacific Coast are just an hour and a half away. One weekend you’re hiking in the mountains, the next you’re soaking up the sun by the ocean. Boquete gives you the best of both worlds without the long commutes.

Number 9 - Safe and Peaceful Living
Boquete is known for its safety and serenity. Crime rates are low, and the locals are friendly, making it a place where you can relax and feel secure. A good friend of mine joked that the biggest risk in Boquete…. is getting too comfortable to ever leave. Imagine living somewhere where the most stressful part of your day is deciding which cafe to try next.

Number 8 - Access to Fresh and Healthy Food
The fertile volcanic soil in Boquete makes it a haven for fresh produce. The Tuesday morning market is a great opportunity to get everything from vibrant fruit and vegetables to artisanal cheeses and freshly baked breads. Imagine stocking your kitchen with ingredients straight from the source. An American friend of mine in her sixties told me she’s never eaten healthier in her life since moving to Boquete. You’ll not only taste the difference, but you’ll feel it too.

Number 7 - Outdoor Adventures
Boquete is an adventurer’s playground. From hiking to the peak of Volcán Barú to white-water rafting on the Chiriquí River, the opportunities for outdoor fun are endless. I’ll never forget the time a friend tried zip-lining here for the first time—her excitement was contagious, and she couldn’t stop talking about the thrill. If you’re looking for excitement, Boquete has it in spades.

Number 6 - Vibrant Expat Community
Moving to a new country can be intimidating, but Boquete’s expat community makes it easy to feel at home. From the weekly Tuesday Market to social clubs and language exchange groups, there’s always something happening. Here’s a little-know secret… It’s not unusual to make more new friends in your first month in Boquete than in five years back home. If you’re looking for connection, you’ll find it here. And to find out why connection is so important, watch this video next.

Number 5 - Affordable Cost of Living
Boquete offers an exceptional quality of life at a fraction of the cost compared to North America. Imagine living in a home with mountain views for less than you’d pay for a modest apartment in a major U.S. city. It’s not about cutting corners—it’s about upgrading your lifestyle while keeping more money in your pocket. To give you an example, let’s talk real numbers.

For about $350,000 you can purchase a brand new 2-bedroom condo at PINOALTO that has about 1,000 square feet. This project is currently under construction with an estimated completion date of late 2025. I love this project because it’s bursting with amenities, such as an on-site restaurant, a reading and coffee room, multiple pools and heated Jacuzzis, a gym, lookout decks, a firepit, and even an on-site medical center.

For this brand-new property, you’ll pay about $30 per month for fire and structure insurance, about $150 per month for property taxes, $240 dollars per month for HOA, about $70-$80 per month for cable and Internet, and probably less than $50 per month for electricity.

When you add these up, the entirety of your carrying costs will be about $550 per month. With such low monthly expenses, if you pay cash for your property, you can easily live off your monthly retirement. Or if you want to invest in a second home, the low carrying costs ensure you can rent out your property and be cash-flow positive right from the start.

Number 4 - Award-winning Coffee
Boquete is world-famous for its coffee, especially the legendary Geisha variety. If you want to learn more about Geisha Coffee, watch THIS video next. Living in Boquete means you’ll have access to some of the best coffee on the planet, grown right in your backyard. I’ll never forget my first sip of Geisha coffee—it was like tasting a tropical fruit basket in liquid form. If you’re a coffee lover, you’ll think you’ve found heaven.

Number 3 - Stunning Natural Beauty
From lush green mountains to cascading waterfalls, Boquete’s natural scenery will leave you in awe. I was chatting with a woman from Houston, Texas, who had recently moved to Boquete. She described her first hike in Boquete as walking straight into a postcard. Whether you’re exploring a cloud forest or you’re dining al fresco, you’ll never run out of breathtaking views to soak in.

Number 2 - Perfect Weather Year-Round
I went to college in Santa Barbara, and the best part of my college years was living in a perfect climate. But because of its perfect climate, Santa Barbara is also ranked as one of the most expensive cities to live… in the entire world. In contrast, Boquete has a similar climate with a little more rain… and a dramatically lower cost of living. Known as the land of eternal spring, Boquete’s climate is a dream come true. Temperatures stay between 65 and 85 degrees Fahrenheit all year long. Imagine sipping your morning coffee on the patio, a light breeze in the air, and no need for AC or heating. It’s a level of comfort very few people have experienced year-round, and one you’ll appreciate every single day.

Number 1 - Incredible Quality of Life
At the heart of it all, Boquete offers an unparalleled quality of life. The combination of natural beauty, a welcoming community, affordability, and endless opportunities for adventure makes it a place where you can truly thrive. I’ve met countless people who came to Boquete for a visit and never wanted to leave. Whether you’re looking for a fresh start, a place to retire, or simply a new adventure, Boquete has it all.

That wraps up our countdown of the top 10 reasons to live in Boquete. If you’re considering a move to Panama …or you’re just curious about what makes Boquete so special, I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Thanks for tuning in to THE PANAMA PODCAST.

What's Holding You Back From Moving to Panama Right Now?

1/25/2025

What if your Plan A isn’t as secure as you think? What if you could have a backup plan that gives you more freedom, more stability, and maybe even a better lifestyle? You’re not alone—people just like you are waking up to the idea of a Plan B, and it’s changing their lives.

Today, we’re counting down the 10 biggest reasons why investing outside your home country could be the smartest move you’ll ever make. And here’s the best part: Panama might just be the perfect place for you.
Stick with me, because when we get to number one, you’ll be ready to start planning YOUR Plan B!

10. Economic and Currency Diversification
Investing outside your home country spreads your assets across multiple economies and currencies. If your local economy takes a downturn or your currency weakens, having assets abroad acts as a financial safety net. In Panama, for example, the U.S. dollar is the official currency, making it an appealing option for anyone seeking stability. If you haven’t planned for economic diversification, now’s the time.

9. Political and Social Instability
Let’s face it— politics can change faster than you can say 'new policy,' …and not always in ways that make life easier or happier for you. If the uncertainty has you feeling uneasy, Panama offers the kind of stability that lets you sleep at night. With decades of steady governance, rock-solid property rights, and a big 'welcome mat' for foreigners who want to invest, Panama is the Plan B you didn’t know you needed. Investing here doesn’t just protect your finances—it gives you the freedom to adapt and thrive no matter what the future throws your way.

8. Tax Advantages
Have you ever wondered why billionaires invest overseas? It’s because they’ve discovered a super-secret way to keep MORE of what they’ve worked so hard to earn. Guess what? You can enjoy that same billionaire secret right here in Panama! With low capital gains, no inheritance tax, property tax exemptions still available on select properties, and plenty of perks for retirees, Panama’s tax system is like a treasure chest waiting for you to unlock it. Whether you’re saving on property taxes or taking advantage of the Pensionado Program’s discounts, Panama helps you keep more of your money where it belongs—in your pocket.

7. Better Investment Opportunities
Let’s be honest—who wants to keep pouring money into real estate markets that are saturated or overpriced? Not me… and probably not you either. That’s why savvy investors are turning their attention to places like Panama, where opportunities are as fresh as the ocean breeze. Imagine owning a beachfront property for less than the down payment on a small condo in your hometown. Or better yet, investing in an emerging market that will deliver high returns as well as equity as the market grows. In Panama, your money doesn’t just sit—it works harder for you, building wealth while you enjoy the view.

6. Lifestyle Improvement
This one’s a game-changer for many people. Investing abroad often means access to a better lifestyle—whether it’s waking up to ocean views or enjoying sunny weather year-round. For me, the best part of my life in Panama is that I live a better lifestyle… but I’m only spending about half of what my life cost in Dallas. How is it better? I live right on the ocean. To put my toes in the sand, I just walk out my front door. The other big perk is that for about the same price as a bi-monthly housekeeper, I have a full-time maid who helps keep my life organized and sparkling clean.

5. Residency and Citizenship Benefits
Did you know that in some countries, an investment can lead to residency? Panama’s Red Carpet Visa rolls out the VIP treatment for savvy investors like you. By purchasing real estate, you can secure quick and easy residency, giving you global mobility and a solid Plan B for your family. And here’s the best part: Choose Panama Real Estate is here to make the process a breeze. Whether you’re looking for a cozy condo or a luxurious oceanfront retreat, we’ll help you find the perfect investment to unlock your freedom. Contact us at ChoosePanama.com to learn more.

4. Rising Cost of Living at Home
Think about your current lifestyle—the home you live in, the healthcare you need, the dining and entertainment you enjoy. Now imagine having all of that, or even better, for a fraction of the cost. That’s what Panama offers. From luxurious oceanfront condos to world-class dining and affordable healthcare, your money stretches much further here. Why settle for just making ends meet when you can live your best life … at a fraction of the price.

3. Natural Disasters
Let’s talk about Mother Nature. She can be unpredictable, and in some places, downright dangerous. If your current location is plagued by hurricanes, earthquakes, tornados, volcanos, or wildfires—you’re going to love Panama. It’s located outside the hurricane belt and isn’t prone to any natural disasters. Panama offers a rare sense of security from Mother Nature’s temper tantrums. It’s the kind of place where you can sleep through “storm season” without a second thought … and wake up to sunny skies.

2. Remote Work Flexibility
Why work in a cramped home office when you could take Zoom calls from your beachfront balcony? Remote work has changed the game, and Panama is the ultimate upgrade. Picture this: you’re sipping fresh Geisha coffee with the ocean breeze in your hair. You start your Zoom call… and your biggest worry is whether the sound of the crashing waves will distract other people on your call. With excellent connectivity, a time zone that syncs with the U.S., and a lifestyle that feels like a permanent vacation, Panama isn’t just a place to work—it’s the place to live your dream.

1. Legacy Planning
Finally, let’s talk about the future. International investments aren’t just about you—they’re about your family and future generations. In Panama, you can hold your property in a corporation or foundation, which means that when you pass away, there’s no need for probate… and your loved ones won’t be burdened with an inheritance tax. By diversifying your assets abroad, you’re creating a legacy of wealth and security that will last for years to come. Panama’s affordable property market and favorable legal structures make it an ideal place to invest …not just for today, but for decades ahead.

Closing
And there you have it—10 powerful reasons why people are looking for a Plan B by investing abroad. From financial diversification to lifestyle upgrades, it’s clear why Panama stands out as the ultimate destination. Got questions or want to learn more? Drop a comment below…or reach out to my team at ChoosePanama.com. We’d love to hear from you.
Thanks for tuning in.

See you in Panama!

Panama's Best Kept Secret Revealed!

1/21/2025

What if I told you there’s a secret about Panama that’s so incredible, it’s convincing people to pack their bags, buy property, and start a whole new life here? I’m talking about that elusive “it” factor… a combination of lifestyle, affordability, and opportunity that you won’t find anywhere else. Stay with me as I reveal Panama’s best-kept secret—something you NEED to know if you’re thinking about visiting, moving, or investing in this amazing country.

The Secret Revealed
Let’s start with the big reveal. Panama’s best-kept secret is that it’s the perfect storm of affordable luxury, modern infrastructure, and unparalleled opportunities. This small country punches way above its weight when it comes to offering an incredible lifestyle at a fraction of the cost you’d pay in North America or Europe.

And it’s not just about affordability. Panama’s strategic location as a global trade hub and its growing tourism and real estate markets make it a place where both visitors and investors are not just living.. but thriving.

Why It’s Relevant Now
Why is now the perfect time to explore Panama? There are 3 reasons.
  • First, Panama has been steadily rising as a hotspot for expats and investors. With regions like Playa Bonita, Boquete, and Costa del Este gaining attention, the demand for everything from vacation rentals to permanent homes is skyrocketing. Independent sources such as InterNations, Live and Invest Overseas, and Travel and Leisure Magazine all rank Panama as one of best places to live or invest. If you’d like to read any of these for yourself, go to ChoosePanama.com/news.
  • The second reason is that Panama’s tourism industry is booming. Last year Panama finished an expansion of it’s largest international airport, the Panama Tocumen Airport, airport code PTY. The expansion cost almost a billion dollars and has doubled both the number of gates and passengers that can be processed… while substantially increasing the number of cities around the world that are connected to Panama with direct flights. Another important infrastructure project is Panama’s new Amador Cruise Terminal that was inaugurated in 2024. This $200 million cruise terminal can process 2 mega cruise ships at once, and up to 10,000 passengers per day. The Panama Tourism Authority expects this cruise season to bring in over 350,000 “cruise” tourists, with more than 170 cruise ships transiting the Panama Canal.
  • The third reason is that with a shifting political climate, many people are looking to diversify with a Plan B. (For more on this, watch THIS video).
These 3 items put together—foreign investment, increased tourism and more people looking for a Plan B—combine to make now the exact right time to give Panama a serious look.

What Makes Panama Stand Out
What truly sets Panama apart? Let’s break it down.

First, Affordable Luxury:
"Imagine living in a high-end, oceanfront condo with all the modern amenities for a fraction of what you’d pay in Miami or LA. Panama’s cost of living makes luxury accessible to more people than you’d expect."

Second, Unmatched Lifestyle:
"Panama is like a choose-your-own-adventure book. Love the beach? It’s here. Prefer cool mountain air? Head to Boquete. Want city vibes with world-class dining and nightlife? Panama City’s got you covered. And all these experiences are just a few hours apart."

Third, Tax and Residency Benefits:
"And then there’s the icing on the cake—Panama’s tax incentives. Whether it’s the Pensionado Program for retirees or favorable property tax laws, Panama offers benefits that make it financially smart to live or invest here."

Who Should Consider Panama?
So, who is Panama perfect for? Honestly, just about everyone.

If you’re visiting, Panama offers everything from the Panama Canal to pristine beaches and vibrant culture. For expats, it’s a haven of safety, community, and quality infrastructure. And for investors, the booming economy, combined with growing tourism and real estate demand, makes it a goldmine.

Unleash the FUN on Your Panama Canal Vacation

1/16/2025

Planning a visit to the Panama Canal? Why just stop by when you can immerse yourself in a one-of-a-kind experience? Just 15 minutes from the heart of Panama City, Playa Bonita is a luxury resort area where beach, jungle, mountains, and nature collide. Here, you’ll have breathtaking views of ships entering and exiting the canal, all while enjoying world-class amenities. It’s the perfect destination to elevate your Panama Canal adventure.

Get ready as I count down the 13 most exciting things you can do on your Panama Canal vacation—all while staying in a luxurious vacation rental at Casa Bonita. Located in the exclusive Playa Bonita area, Casa Bonita isn’t just a vacation spot; it’s a luxury residential tower packed with incredible amenities. And trust me, you won’t want to miss the number one way to experience your Panama Canal Vacation—it’s absolutely mind-blowing.

13. Transit the Panama Canal
Although many cruise lines build their itineraries around transiting the Panama Canal, you can also take a half-day or full-day trip through the locks. This is a less expensive option than a 7 to 10-day cruise. A 6-hour transit with lunch costs around $150, so it’s also wallet friendly.

12. Visit the Miraflores Locks at the Panama Canal
Get up-close-and-personal with one of the 7 Wonders of the Modern World! Visiting the Miraflores Locks is a must-do for everyone visiting Panama. Watch massive ships navigate the locks, learn about the canal's history, and marvel at this engineering masterpiece. The Miraflores Locks are only about 25 minutes from Playa Bonita. Here’s an Insider Tip—go in the morning as soon as it opens to avoid the crowds.

11. Indulge in the 5-Star Spa
Step into pure bliss at the 5-Star Spa, where luxury and relaxation meet in the most indulgent way possible. The crown jewel of this experience is a ‘wet’ area designed to rejuvenate your body and mind. Start with the hot and warm Jacuzzis to melt your stress away, then invigorate your senses with a dip in the cold plunge pool.

Unwind in the steam room or sauna, perfect for detoxifying and leaving your skin glowing. And to top it all off, the rain showers will leave you feeling refreshed and ready to take on the rest of your day. But don’t stop there. You can get anything from a rejuvenating facial to a variety of different massages. Whether you’re looking for relaxation or restoration, the Spa at Playa Bonita is the ultimate escape. When I go missing, my friends know the Spa is where to find me.

10. Play Pickleball
Pickleball has taken the world by storm. Start your day with a bit of friendly competition! Pickleball games happen every morning from 7 AM to 9 AM. It’s a great way to meet new friends and stay active on vacation.

9. Hire a Personal Chef for Your Luxury Apartment
Going out to dinner is great, but there is something about having someone cook for you that seems so decadent. You can bring the culinary experience to you by having a personal chef come to your luxury apartment at Casa Bonita to prepare a meal—or even teach you how to cook like a pro. Just ask us and we’ll hook you up with a chef who will elevate your experience from great… to OMG!

8. Collect Shells at Low Tide
Did you know the Pacific Ocean side of Panama has one of the largest tidal differentials in the world? At low tide, the ocean retreats to reveal a hidden world along the beach rocks—a treasure trove of seashells and marine critters just waiting to be discovered. Take a relaxing stroll, explore the exposed shoreline, and see what unique souvenirs you can bring home. Just don’t forget to check the tide schedule for the perfect shell-collecting window!

7. Join a Ping Pong or Poker Game
Head to the rooftop game room at Casa Bonita, where you can challenge your new friends to a ping pong tournament or a game of poker. It’s fun, relaxed, and a great way to bond with fellow travelers.

6. Spot Monkeys and Sloths
Mornings and evenings in Playa Bonita are like living in the Panama edition of The Jungle Book. Monkeys are a common sight in the jungle canopy, so bring your binoculars. Watch the adorable Capuchin monkeys swing effortlessly from tree to tree—it’s like nature’s own acrobat show. We also have howler monkeys, and even though you might not see them, you’ll definitely hear them, especially about 5 or 6 am when the jungle starts to wake up. As cute as the monkeys are, the sloths take the proverbial cake. These adorable, slow-moving creatures can be found in the park and jungle areas surrounding Playa Bonita. Watch as they gracefully (well, slowly!) make their way up and down the trees, smiling as if they don’t have a care in the world.

5. Borrow a Free Bike and Explore Panama Pacifico
Want to know another perk of the Pearl Club? You can borrow a bicycle for free! Pedal around the resort to get your heart pumping. If you want a real workout, you can bike through Panama Pacifico’s many trails and discover hidden corners of this lush paradise.

4. Spend the Day at the Pearl Club Beach Club
Luxury meets relaxation at the Pearl Club Beach Club. With access to the pristine beach, two beachfront pools, and a private restaurant, it’s the perfect spot to unwind and soak up the tropical vibes. You can order poolside food and drink, get a good workout at the gym, or engage your brain with a bout of board games in the game room. The Pearl Club has something for everyone. Your time at the Pearl Club might just be one of the best parts of your Panama Canal vacation.

3. Explore the Bay by Canoe or Paddleboard
Ready for a little adventure? Cruise the bay by canoe or stand-up paddleboard. It’s a peaceful way to explore the area and take in the stunning coastal scenery and get just a bit closer to the ships that are lined up to go through the Panama Canal. When you join the Pearl Club, you don’t need to rent them… you just check them out.

2. Visit the Agua Clara Locks
You’ve come all the way to Panama to see the Panama Canal, you might as well really experience it. Drive to the Caribbean side of Panama to see the impressive Agua Clara Locks. The visitor center opened in 2016 as part of the canal's expansion. The new locks accommodate larger vessels through the new deeper, and wider channel. At the Agua Clara Locks, you’ll experience turquoise waters and thinner crowds, making it a worthwhile trip. It's about an hour's drive from Playa Bonita—perfect for a day of exploration.

1. Watch Ships Enter the Canal (with an App!)
There’s nothing quite like seeing massive ships entering the mouth of the Panama Canal. It’s both fascinating and awe-inspiring. But what makes it even better is knowing every detail about the ships you’re watching. You can become a Panama Canal insider just by downloading the free app, Marine Traffic. This will allow you to track ships and know exactly when to grab a seat for the best views. As a side note, I’ve also used this app in the South of France to find out who owns the mega yachts, so if you’re ship-curious, you’ll love this app. The Marine Traffic app has a paid version, but try out the free version first. If you love it, you can always upgrade.

If you’re watching this episode on video, you can see a ship behind me that’s just come out of the Panama Canal. This ship is about 400 meters long, or about the same length as the Empire State Building. You see, it’s never boring on a Panama Canal Vacation!

Playa Bonita is so much more than a beach destination that’s in close proximity to the Panama Canal—it’s an unforgettable experience packed with adventure, relaxation, and a little bit of magic. Which of these activities would YOU try first? Let me know in the comments.

What is Geisha Coffee and Why Is It So Expensive?

1/11/2025

What if I told you there’s a coffee so rare, so exquisite, it sells for over $1,000 a pound? And it’s grown right here in the lush mountains of Panama. This isn’t just coffee—it’s a luxury experience that’s taken the world by storm. Stick around to discover how Geisha coffee goes from plant to cup …and why Panama is the ultimate destination for the most extraordinary coffee experience you’ll ever taste!

What is Geisha Coffee?
Geisha coffee isn’t just any coffee. It’s a rare variety of Arabica coffee originally from Ethiopia, named after the Gesha region where it was first discovered. But it wasn’t until the 1960s that Geisha coffee made its way to Panama, where it found the perfect growing conditions in the high-altitude farms of Boquete. And here’s the twist in this coffee tale—Panama’s volcanic soil and unique microclimate brought out flavors no one had ever tasted before.

What Exactly is Coffee?
Before we get into the Geisha journey, have you ever thought about where coffee comes from? Coffee is technically considered a fruit because it grows as a cherry-like berry on the coffee plant. The coffee cherry is the fruit, and the coffee bean is the seed inside the fruit. While we primarily use the seed to make coffee, the entire fruit is edible and sometimes used in other products, such as cascara tea, which is made from the dried skins of the coffee cherry. So while we don't typically consume coffee as a fruit, its botanical classification is indeed a fruit!

The Plant to Cup Journey
Let’s take a closer look at how Geisha coffee goes from plant to cup. It all starts in the highlands of Boquete, where the cool temperatures, rich volcanic soil, and consistent rainfall create ideal conditions for growing this exceptional coffee.

Step 1: Growing the Coffee Plant
Geisha coffee trees are delicate … and require careful attention. Farmers meticulously cultivate the plants, which take three to five years to produce their first harvest.

Step 2: Harvesting the Cherries
When the coffee cherries ripen to a deep red, they’re picked by hand—a labor-intensive process that ensures only the best cherries make the cut.

Step 3: Processing the Beans
There are 4 stages that beans must go through during processing: Pulping, Fermentation, Washing, and Drying. Each is crucial—as it’s where much of Geisha’s distinct flavor profile develops.

During pulping, the outer skin and most of the fruit pulp are removed using a machine.
The beans, still coated with a sticky layer called mucilage, are placed in water-filled fermentation tanks. Over 12-48 hours, natural enzymes break down the mucilage.

After fermentation, the beans are thoroughly washed with water to remove any remaining mucilage. The clean beans are then spread out on raised beds to dry in the sun. They can also be mechanically dried to a specific moisture level (usually 10-12%).

Step 4: Roasting
The beans are then roasted, often in small batches, to highlight their floral and fruity notes. Geisha coffee is known for tasting like jasmine, bergamot, and tropical fruits, with a silky body and vibrant acidity. Every sip is like drinking a fine wine!

How Geisha Coffee Became Famous
So, how did Panama’s Geisha coffee go from a local secret to global fame? The turning point came in 2004. During the “Best of Panama” auction, experts couldn’t believe the unique flavors—they described it as a game-changer for the coffee world. That year, Hacienda La Esmeralda's Geisha coffee fetched a record-breaking price of $21 per pound, significantly higher than the previous high of $4.80 per pound.

This event marked the beginning of Geisha coffee's rise to prominence in the specialty coffee market. Since then, prices for Geisha coffee have continued to soar, with some lots selling for over $1,000 per pound.

Tasting Geisha Coffee
Tasting Geisha coffee is a sensory journey. Whether you’re savoring it in a small café in Boquete or at a fancy coffee shop in Tokyo, every cup offers a burst of delicate floral notes and tropical sweetness. Here’s a Pro tip: enjoy it without cream or sugar to fully appreciate its complexity.

And if you ever get the chance, visit one of Panama’s coffee farms to experience the process firsthand. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to taste Geisha coffee right at its source.

Before we wrap up, what’s the best coffee you’ve ever tasted? Let me know in the comments below.

Closing
Geisha coffee isn’t just a drink; it’s a masterpiece of nature and craftsmanship. So, the next time you’re in Panama, make sure to try a cup. You’ll never think about coffee the same way again. After all, Geisha is not just coffee; it’s an experience.

I hope you enjoyed this episode.

Profit BIG from Panama City Medical Tourism in 2025!

1/7/2025

What if I told you there’s an investment opportunity in Panama City that combines booming medical tourism, short-term rental potential, and strong ROI? Stay tuned as I count down the top 6 reasons why investing in a condo in Panama’s business hub of Costa del Este could be your smartest move yet.

6. The Medical Tourism Boom
Panama is becoming a hub for medical tourism. If you’re not familiar with the term, medical tourism is when people travel to another country to get medical treatments. Not only are most procedures less expensive, but you can also get the surgery scheduled much faster. It’s a growing trend, especially for those looking to combine healthcare with a little vacation.

But why is medical tourism so popular in Panama? Bottom line…the cost. When comparing the cost of a face lift in the US to the same procedure in Panama, the cost is shockingly different. In the U.S., the AVERAGE cost for a face lift is over 16 thousand dollars, although it can cost as much as $40,000 depending on where you live.

In contrast, Panama offers more affordable options for cosmetic surgery. A facelift in Panama can cost around $2,500 to $5,000, providing a cost-effective alternative. Since many of the doctors in Panama are trained in the US, you’re getting apples-to-apples care ….for a fraction of the cost.

But medical tourism is not just about face lifts and boob jobs. A friend of mine from the US needed about a hundred thousand dollars worth of dental work. He came to Panama and had the same dental work done here…and paid about 20 thousand dollars. That’s a savings of 80 thousand dollars.

5. The Medical Tourism Hotspot of Costa del Este
Because of the huge savings, people from around the world are coming to Panama for high-quality, affordable medical procedures—and guess what…they need a place to stay! Costa del Este is a neighborhood in Panama City that is home to tens of thousands of international expats as well as over 120 multinational companies, such as Proctor & Gamble, Nestle, L’oreal and Samsung.

This sleek new area is also a hub for medical tourism, as it’s perfectly positioned near hospitals—specifically the Johns Hopkins affiliated hospital Pacifica Salud. This makes Costa del Este a hub for short-term and mid-term rentals, both from the multinational companies as well as medical tourism. If you invest here, you’ll be tapping into a growing demand that’s not slowing down anytime soon.

4. Special License for Short-Term Rentals
Like many other cities around the world, Panama City has a law that bans short term rentals under 45 days. However, there are 2 new projects in Costa del Este--Arcadia and Generation Tower—that have a special license that legally allows short-term Airbnb-style rentals. This is a game-changer for investors. There is no need to worry about legal restrictions; these properties are built for flexibility. Whether you’re catering to medical tourists, vacationers, or long-term renters, you’re all set.

3. Arcadia: Move-In Ready Luxury
If you want to invest in a property that’s ready to go right now, Arcadia opened in late 2024, which means it’s already built and waiting for you. The apartments that are available range from 750 to 818 square feet. They come fully furnished and are rental ready. Prices at Arcadia start at around $300,000, but the perks are clear. You can start generating rental income immediately. With Costa del Este’s reputation for high-end living, you’ll attract premium tenants and travelers. It really is an investor’s dream. There are only a few apartments left, so if this option tickles your fancy, contact us right away to learn more.

2. Generation Tower: Affordable and Future-Focused
Generation Tower is the new kid on the block, set to be ready in 2027. The apartments are slightly smaller, and prices start at just $217,000, making it an affordable entry point into this lucrative market. Imagine owning a brand-new condo in a prime area designed for short-term rentals.

Plus, buying now means you can lock in pre-construction prices and watch your investment grow as the area continues to develop. The other great thing about Generation Tower is that you pay in stages. For example, here’s how it could be structured if you buy in 2025.

You pay 15% of the purchase price when you sign the contract. One year later, you pay another 10%, and in 2 years, you pay another 15%. When the building is finished and it’s time to take possession, you can either pay the remaining 60%... or you can finance the balance through the developer for up to 5 years. The best part about using developer financing is that the property is the collateral, so you don’t need to provide financial statements to get financing. You just ask for it. Easy peezy.

1. High ROI Potential
Let’s talk numbers. The expected Return-on-investment for both Arcadia and Generation Tower is between 8 to 10%. This number isn’t a guess; it’s based on similar properties and hotels in the area. That’s not just good—it’s GREAT for real estate investments, especially for those who want to diversify their portfolio in a stable area with high appreciation potential.

With steady demand from medical tourism and short-term rentals, your condo could become a reliable source of passive income.

As a fully licensed, bonded and insured real estate company, we at Choose Panama can help you find the best investment that’s right for you. Go to ChoosePanama.com and click on “Contact” in the top navigation bar. We’ll set-up a call and talk you through the pros and cons of each option.

Closing
If you’re looking for a smart, high-return investment in a booming market, these condos in Costa del Este are calling your name. Whether you choose Arcadia for instant income or Generation Tower for future growth, you’re setting yourself up for success.

The BEST Way to Get MAIL and Amazon Packages in PANAMA

1/3/2025

Think getting mail in Panama is complicated? Think again! Whether it's an Amazon delivery or grandma's cookies, I'm going to show you how it works here—and it's WAY easier than you think!

1. Forget Traditional Mail
First things first: Panama doesn’t have a traditional mail system like the U.S. or Europe. If you send something through regular postal mail, chances are … it will never arrive. That birthday card? Gone. Your Amazon package? Forget about it. But don’t worry; there’s a better way!

2. Get a Mailbox with a U.S. Address
Instead of traditional mail, expats in Panama rely on companies like Mail Boxes Etc. or Airbox Express. They give you a U.S. address—usually in Miami. Here’s how it works: your mail or packages go to Miami first, and then they’re shipped to Panama. Easy, right?

3. Amazon Shopping Made Simple
Here's the good news: ordering from Amazon is a breeze! If you have Amazon Prime 2-day delivery in the U.S., your order will typically arrive in Panama in about a week. For example, order on a Tuesday, and you’ll probably be unboxing your new gadget by the following Tuesday. Not bad for international delivery!

4. Be Prepared to Pay a Fee
Receiving mail and packages in is easy-breezy, but here’s the catch: you’ll pay a receiving fee based on the weight and value of your package. Different companies charge different rates, so shop around for the best deal. At Mail Boxes Etc., I pay a monthly fee of just under $30, which includes my dedicated mailbox and about 4 pounds of receiving weight each month. For smaller packages with a value of under $100, it’s usually pretty reasonable. For bigger items—well, let’s just say you might want to keep an eye on that shipping calculator. Which brings us to our next point…

5. Save Money When you “Ship by Sea”
If you’re shipping something heavy or bulky—like furniture or appliances—you can save money by using sea freight. It takes longer—about a month compared to a week—but the cost difference is significant. This is the perfect option for those big-ticket items you’re not in a hurry to get. To give you an example of the price difference, I bought a steam oven that was 65 pounds. Sent the normal way as air cargo, it would have been about $180 to receive this. But because it came via ship, I paid just $35 to receive it. Yes, it took an extra couple of weeks, but I saved $145.

Closing
And there you have it! Getting mail in Panama might be different than what you’re used to, but once you’ve got your mailbox and shipping options sorted, it’s smooth sailing—or should I say, smooth flying and shipping! If you’ve got questions about mail—or anything else about living in Panama—drop them in the comments below. I’d love to hear from you!

Until next time, see you in Panama!
