Today, I’m here to share everything you need to know about Panama’s unique weather patterns. If you're wondering what to pack or when to book that plane ticket, stick around—this countdown is exactly what you need to plan your perfect time in Panama.
Number 5: Dry Season
From December to April, Panama shines with non-stop sunshine and clear skies. This is when Panama's outdoor life really comes alive. Think beach days, hiking through national parks, and enjoying rooftop dinners with no rain in sight.
It’s also the busiest time for tourists—and the most expensive for hotels and rental apartments--so make sure to plan ahead if you’re visiting during the dry season. Trust me, you don’t want to miss those stunning sunsets on the Pacific Coast!
Here’s a Pro Tip: Be sure to bring a hand fan if you run hot, don’t forget your sunglasses. The tropical sun might be brighter than you’re used to.
Number 4: Rainy Season
From May to November, Panama transforms into a lush, green paradise. Yes, it rains, but don’t let that stop you! Rain in Panama usually comes in short, refreshing bursts—followed by gorgeous sunshine. Although the weather apps will all show you day after day of rain icons, the reality is that it doesn’t rain every day in rainy season. And when it does rain, it’s often for just 20 minutes or so.
So don’t let the weather channel deter you from experiencing Panama during rainy season. If you’re like me and love the beauty of nature, rainy season is the time to experience Panama's waterfalls, rainforests, and cooler temperatures. Just pack a travel umbrella, and you’re good to go!
Number 3: Humidity
With Panama’s tropical climate, it can feel humid, especially near the coasts. But here’s a pro tip: if the humidity bothers you, head up to the highlands like Boquete or El Valle for cooler temps and less humidity. Although your body may not be used to the humidity, your skin will love it. This is one of the little-known secrets as to why people who’ve moved to Panama actually look younger after a year or two of living here.
If you need a break from the heat, Boquete’s cool mountain breeze is perfect for a quick getaway or even a permanent home. You’ll still get Panama’s beauty, but without the warmer temperatures.
Keep in mind that the humidity changes from day to day. If you don’t mind a bit of humidity now and then, Panama City, Playa Bonita, or the Coronado Beach Area are great options for lifestyle.
Number 2: Microclimates
Believe it or not, Panama’s weather can change dramatically depending on where you are. In the city, it’s warm. In the Coronado beaches area, it’s a bit hotter… but it’s also breezier. And with only a short drive to the highlands, it’s much cooler. Depending on where you are, each microclimate makes you feel like you’re [shrug] in a different country.
The beauty of Panama is that you can go from tropical beaches to cool mountain towns in just a couple of hours. So whether you’re a beach bum, a mountain lover, or a city slicker…Panama’s got you covered.
Number 1: Best Time to Visit
If you’re planning your dream trip to Panama, you’ll get postcard-perfect weather, endless outdoor adventures, and plenty of local festivals to enjoy in dry season.
But don’t rule out the rainy season! It’s less crowded, more affordable, and you’ll see Panama at its most beautiful. Either way, Panama’s weather is just one of the many reasons you’ll fall in love with this country.
