This year alone I have lived in four different countries: South Africa, Thailand, China and Panama. Plus I have traveled to two other countries along the way. In the midst of this journey, I met the love of my life, my boyfriend Remko.
We met in Thailand. We came from two different cultures on opposite sides of the world. He is Dutch and I am South African, so how we met and fell in love can only be called fate. We both had different plans and different goals but that all changed the night we met. After we met, I moved to China and Remko went back to the Netherlands. A month later he was in China with me, and as they say, the rest is history.
My move to Panama City was unexpected. I knew nothing about Panama City before moving here. Flying for almost 24 hours, I finally reached Panama City, where Remko was waiting for me. He had moved here for work prior to my arrival. As I was waiting to go through passport control, excitement bubbled within me. I was starting my life in a country I knew nothing about, but it seemed so normal to me.
As I settled in, I started to experience Panama City more and more. After two weeks of living in Panama, I could use the subway, take a taxi, speak some basic Spanish words, and get around by myself. We found an amazing apartment in Avenida Balboa that is on the 32nd floor of high-rise apartment building and has a stunning view of the city and the Pacific Ocean. I have found the people in Panama City to be friendly and fun. I have read that Panama is one of the happiest places to live in the world, and I can now honestly say it is.
My move to Panama City was very easy, from the food, people, places, and social interactions. Remko and I even have a new addition to our family, our little puppy Rio. Although I hadn't planned on Panama, I'm glad I'm here!
